About CELBAN

Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses (CELBAN) is an English language proficiency test for nurses educated outside Canada who use English is an additional language.  It is necessary for nursing licensure in Canada when required to provide evidence of English language proficiency.

The test is administered online in two parts: the Speaking Test and the Listening, Reading and Writing Tests.

The Speaking Test is a virtual interview delivered online over Zoom and takes about 35 minutes.

The Listening, Reading and Writing Tests, also referred to as the Computer Based Test (CBT), is delivered in-person at a test site or through a remote assessment platform.  It takes about 2.5 hours to complete.

For more information about the test, visit the Test Information page at the CELBAN Center website: https://www.celbancentre.ca/test-information.aspx.
